Green Nord 27's Instagram Post Criticizing the High Cost of Match Tickets: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Political Communication and Digital Activism Among Indonesian Football Supporter Groups
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research examines the influence of social media on football fan activism, focusing on the political discourse of the Green Nord 27 supporter group in relation to Persebaya's management. Employing the Critical Discourse Analysis framework as developed by Teun van Dijk, this study examines Instagram posts from @greennord.27 that address protests concerning match ticket pricing. The analysis examines the macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure of the texts, as well as their cognitive and social contexts. The findings reveal that social media has reshaped the power relations between the team and its supporters, with fans evolving from passive onlookers to influential political participants. The posts under scrutiny not only articulate dissatisfaction but also challenge existing power structures within modern football. The use of provocative language and strategic communication highlights a sophisticated approach to digital fan activism. The deliberate choice of language, visual symbols, and rhetoric underscores efforts to galvanize support and sway public opinion. This study emphasizes social media as an emerging platform for negotiating power and identity in football, empowering fans to create effective digital social movements that contest dominant narratives and influence team policies.
